Wyjście na UAM 1/4a

On 25th March 2026 my class 1/4A and our English teacher Mrs Aleksandra Marciniak visited Collegium Heliodori Święcicki at Adam Mickiewicz University and attended the English-speaking and Polish-speaking workshops. Both lecturers, Karen Kuhn and Aleksandra Plebanek, talked about different subjects.

The first lecture, given by Karen Kuhn, was about the importance of sport in South Africa. The lecturer explained how sport influences society, brings people together, and plays a significant role in the country’s culture and history. Everyone listened with great interest because the topic was both engaging and inspiring.

The second lecture, presented by Aleksandra Plebanek, focused on the influence of different languages on English, especially the impact of the Dutch language. It was fascinating to explore the etymology of words that seem typically English or American at first glance. The lecture also encouraged reflection on language borrowing and how different cultures influence the development of vocabulary. The speaker showed us how words and expressions have evolved over time and how languages can shape one another. It included many opportunities for pair and group discussions, which made it very engaging. It was very interesting to discover connections between languages we use every day.
