A Pale Gold Raven at Apollo Theatre
On 12th March our class 1/4A and our English teacher Aleksandra Marciniak went to the Apollo Theatre in Poznań to see a play based on a series of short stories written by Edgar Allan Poe. It was an amazing experience because the atmosphere was very dark and mysterious. The performance focused on several of Poe’s most famous stories in a very dramatic way. At the beginning we watched “The Black Cat”, a terrifying story about a man who mistreats his pet and eventually commits a crime. Another very intense part was “The Tell-Tale Heart”. It was scary to watch the narrator go mad because he could hear the beating of a dead man’s heart. We also saw the story of “The Pit and the Pendulum”. It was very tense because the main character was trapped while a sharp blade was swinging closer and closer to him. The play also included “The Murders in the Rue Morgue”, where an orangutan is the killer. Finally, there was the famous poem “The Raven”, which was very poetic and sad. We really enjoyed the performance because the lighting and music made everything feel very spooky. It was a great way to learn about classic English literature and train our English language skills. I would definitely recommend this play to anyone who likes thrillers!
